English Walnut AZEK Deck Expansion with Cedar Pergola and Lighting in Bernville, PA
Completed in 2022, this outdoor living renovation in Bernville, Pennsylvania, transformed an existing wood deck with upgraded decking, an expanded footprint, a cedar pergola, and integrated perimeter lighting.
Rather than removing the entire structure, the project reused the existing deck frame. The original pressure-treated deck boards were removed and replaced with AZEK Vintage Collection decking in English Walnut, giving the deck a rich wood-inspired appearance with a lower-maintenance finished surface.
An additional deck section was constructed to fill an open corner in the original layout. This expansion creates a more complete and usable deck footprint while improving the flow between the different outdoor areas. A step was also installed at the end of the deck near the pergola’s short-side corner.
A custom 10′ × 10′ cedar pergola defines approximately 100 square feet of the renovated space. The natural cedar adds warmth and architectural character while creating a distinct location for seating, dining, or relaxing beneath the open-air structure.
Surface-mounted IN-LITE PUCK 22 12-volt lights were installed around the perimeter of the deck. The lighting system uses 12/2 cable for the longer wiring distances and a HUB-50 transformer with dusk-to-dawn operation, allowing the deck lighting to activate automatically as daylight fades.
By combining English Walnut AZEK decking, an expanded deck layout, a cedar pergola, and low-voltage outdoor lighting, this Bernville backyard renovation creates a comfortable gathering space that can be enjoyed during both the day and evening.
