Elevated Sea Salt Gray Composite Deck Rebuild in Myerstown, PA

This elevated composite deck reconstruction in Myerstown, Pennsylvania, transformed an aging wood deck while preserving the structural components that remained suitable for continued use. The completed 15′ × 16′ layout provides approximately 240 square feet of outdoor living space.

During demolition, the old decking and railing were removed while the existing ledger board, beam, and interior joists were retained. The original boards were secured with Phillips-head screws, requiring the deck surface to be carefully dismantled before reconstruction could begin.

Two outside joists were replaced with new 2″ × 8″ joists, and an additional beam was installed to support the enlarged deck configuration. Extension joists measuring eight feet or longer span between the existing and new beams, while the original joists remain spaced approximately 16 inches on center.

The rebuilt surface features TimberTech Prime Collection composite decking in Sea Salt Gray. Hidden fasteners eliminate visible screw heads across the main surface, while a picture-frame border creates a clean, finished edge around the deck.

White vinyl railing with black York aluminum balusters adds contrast and definition around the elevated platform. The combination of white rails, dark vertical balusters, and soft gray decking gives the completed structure a balanced transitional appearance.

Positioned approximately four to five feet above grade, the finished deck combines retained framing with targeted structural improvements and low-maintenance composite materials. The ledger flashing was also inspected and resealed where necessary to help protect the connection between the deck and home.
