Dark Cocoa Composite Deck with Integrated Drainage in Palmyra, PA
Completed in 2026, this custom 14′ × 25′ composite deck in Palmyra, Pennsylvania, created 350 square feet of low-maintenance outdoor living space. The project combines TimberTech decking, contrasting white and black railings, built-in lighting, finished skirting, and a complete stormwater-management system.
TimberTech Prime Collection decking in Dark Cocoa gives the deck a rich, natural appearance while providing improved resistance to moisture, fading, staining, and everyday wear. Hidden fasteners were used across most of the deck surface, with visible fasteners limited to the starter boards and fascia.
A one-board-wide Dark Cocoa picture-frame border slightly overhangs the deck perimeter, creating a professionally finished edge. A coordinating divider board adds another custom detail to the deck surface. White composite or PVC fascia provides a crisp contrast, while horizontal Dark Cocoa composite skirting conceals the framing beneath the deck.
The deck was constructed on a new pressure-treated frame supported by 6″ × 6″ posts attached to a double beam. Sonotube footers provide a durable structural foundation.
White 400 Series vinyl railings with black round aluminum balusters surround the deck. A Black Walnut Wolf PVC deck board was mounted along the top of the railing to create a convenient bar-style drink rail.
Four-foot-wide pressure-treated stairs feature TimberTech Prime Collection composite treads, matching fascia, and picture-framed edges on each step. Placid low-voltage step lights improve visibility after dark and include the necessary wiring, splitter, 120-watt power supply, and control hub.
Stormwater improvements were also incorporated beneath the deck. The system includes an infiltration bed, drainage trench, and stone ground covering to help control runoff and improve drainage around the structure.
