This custom covered composite deck in Schnecksville, Pennsylvania, combines an outdoor living area with a permanent roof designed for shade and weather protection. The project pairs rich Dark Roast decking with cedar accents, gray siding, and textured black cable railing.
A new pressure-treated wood frame supports TimberTech PRO composite decking in Dark Roast. The deep brown decking provides the appearance of richly stained wood while offering the durability and reduced maintenance of a capped composite surface.
The homeowner removed the previous deck before construction while leaving the existing ledger board in place. New composite stairs connect the elevated deck with the yard, and the homeowner planned to install lattice around the lower portion after the deck was completed.
American Series cable railing surrounds the deck and features a textured black top rail for a clean, contemporary appearance. Vinyl secondary handrail sections were also included where required, while the stair design did not require a separate grab rail.
Above the deck, a custom roof package features GAF shingles in Biscayne Blue, four-inch gray siding across the gable wall, and a gutter system for managing roof runoff. The posts and supporting beam were finished with cedar for a warmer architectural appearance.
Rather than installing a level ceiling below the roof, cedar boards were attached directly along the slope of the rafters. This vaulted cedar ceiling follows the roofline and adds natural color and texture to the sheltered entertaining area.
