Clipped-Corner Slate Gray AZEK Deck Extension in Lebanon, PA
A carefully planned extension can add useful space to an existing deck without requiring the entire structure to be rebuilt. Completed in Lebanon, Pennsylvania, in 2022, this project added an approximately 8′ × 8′ AZEK deck extension to the homeowner’s existing outdoor living area.
The new section features AZEK decking in Slate Gray, providing a clean, neutral surface that coordinates with the existing deck. A HIDfast hidden fastening system minimizes visible fasteners and gives the finished deck boards a smoother, more consistent appearance.
The extension was framed with approximately 10-foot-long 2″ × 10″ joists spaced 16 inches on center or aligned to match the existing framing. The joists rest on the supporting beam and are securely fastened to the existing deck joists, integrating the addition with the original structure.
New 6″ × 6″ support posts were installed along the outside edge of the extension. Matching braces were added at the post-and-beam connections so the new construction maintains the architectural details of the existing deck.
Instead of using a standard square corner, the extension was upgraded with an approximately two-foot clipped corner. This custom detail required additional support, labor, and railing while giving the deck a more tailored shape.
White 200 Series vinyl railing completes the extension, creating a bright contrast against the Slate Gray decking and providing a consistent low-maintenance finish around the expanded deck area.
